I remember it well! Fresh off the Greyhound from Lexington, KY (that’s pronounced Lexnun, btw) I attended my first Broadway Flea Market in historic Shubert Alley. I was completely starstruck and overwhelmed with all of the theatre related items, many of them from actual Broadway shows! Oh, the treasures I unearthed!
The annual Flea Market which benefits Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has grown
over the years out of the confines of the Alley, to encompass an entire block on 44th street, and this year I had the infinite joy of joining a hard working cast of cabaret performers, supporters and journalists at the MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs) booth right smack in
front of Sardi’s! We had a marvelous, laughter filled day and, most importantly, we raised $3,400
for a magnificent cause! Our booth starred (in alphabetical order and praying I don’t leave anyone out!) Emilio Guizar Bach, Clare Cooper, Frank Dain, Ruth Kurtzman, Rob Lester, Nikki MacCallum, Christine Reisner, Julie Reyburn (and Layla!!!) and Edie Stokes! So very proud to be part of this generous community.
