Baby Jane Dexter is a savage when she's working. No stone is unturned. It goes with being a truth teller. For several decades, she's been one of the best things to happen to cabaret. Teachers and directors even bring students to observe her unique style. Too, legions of fans return over and over. They are never let down. She's an original in a world filled with cookie cutter, overrated neophytes who get by on run-of-the mill vanity shows.

Definitely not recommended for summer fun, is what Nik Wallenda decided to do in 2008. Seemingly, he was bored, so he set a world record by taking a walk on 235 feet of wire suspended between two cranes. He finished this stroll  by Flying_WallendaNik Wallenda's spinning classpedaling a bicycle on a wire dangling above Newark, New Jersey.

The_Best_Is_Yet_To_Come

One of the coolest ways to kick off summer is at 59E59 Theatres, with the new production of the the new light-hearted musical romp, The Best is Yet to Come. It is also about as classy as it gets. Co-starring Lillias White, Billy Stritch, Howard McGillan, David Burnham and newcomer Natascia Diaz (who was standing in for Sally Mayes until June 19). This mix of fun and sophistication celebrates the versatility of songwriter Cy Coleman who died in 2004. There's no script, and it's all really great songs performed by a super ensemble of pros. Nothing about this little show falls short.

"Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety nine percent  perspiration."     Thomas A, Edison

On December 4, 1877, Thomas Alva Edison became the first person to ever record and play back the human voice. It's safe to say we've come a long way since. Everyone wants to make a CD.  And, many do – with mixed results.  Some of the best singing I have ever heard has come from little known artists from Broadway and cabaret. But even singers in major Broadway hits have released solo albums that have not gone far.
