Memo to Brian Frons – someone needs to shoot the entire writing staff of “General Hospital.” With VERY few exceptions, every parent and their offspring on this show are so f&%$*d up that they have made this show unwatchable. All they do is blame each other and point fingers, rather than owning up to their failures. The only characters on the show who KNOW they’re lousy parents and admit to it, are Luke Spencer and Alexis Davis. Luke (the always charmingly wonderful Tony Geary) knows he’s failed every parent test in the book and Alexis (my heart-throb and future ex-wife, the beautiful Nancy Lee Grahn) realizes that most of the time, she hasn’t a clue.
The rest of the parents in Port Chuckles? Child protective services would have a field day with them.
Other Season Finales - CBS and NBC Wind it Down, with A Few ABC’s Left Over
Friday: The news that “Ghost Whisperer” has been cancelled has rocked the
TVJ’s world. Just when the TVJ discovered this wonderful show, CBS, in its infinite stupidity, yanked it from the line-up. Just when Melinda realized that she and her son must never take their “gift” for granted, they pull it, when this show has so much more to say. Rumor had it that ABC might pick it up, but it was announced last week that they won’t. Hey! SyFy Channel? You air the re-runs, so maybe? Please, please, please, someone do the right thing! A confessed “Stargate” addict, the TVJ was mourning “SG:1” and “Atlantis,” when up popped “Stargate: Universe.”
Approaching with caution, lest there be a biggo disappointment, the TVJ is pleased to announce that this new offspring of the “Stargate” franchise is quite interesting and getting even more so with each episode. The finale was so mind-blowingly out there, that I was in shock for two days. Crazy leaders of the Lucian Alliance who kill at will, people shot and dying, unlikely heroes and a cliff-hanger that left me gasping. Sounds like a nice, quiet evening at home, huh? Stay tuned!
Monday:
“Two and A Half Men” - oh, they were so right; this was “not going to end well.”
There was something amusing, in an art imitating life sort of way, about seeing Charlie Sheen face down on the hood of his car being handcuffed. It’s déjà vu all over again. “Big Bang Theory” is still my favorite sit-com on TV today and their season finale was just as wonderful as the entire season has been. There needs to be Penny and Leonard, but the boys finding a match for Sheldon was just too wonderful for words. Next season will be
something to look forward to. “Law & Order” or, “the mother ship” goes down and NOT with a whimper! Crazy teachers stuck in “rubber rooms” is the last of the “Ripped from the Headlines” stories that made this show the best of the best. But it ended on an up note, with the gathering of the stars of the show at an event to help their ailing boss,
played by the marvelous S. Epatha Merkerson, herself leaving “Law & Order,” but unknown to all, this season finale turned out to be the series finale. So how perfect was it to see everyone involved in this wonderful show together to toast each other! Take that and put it up your “Gunsmoke,” NBC!
Tuesday:
“V” – ok, I confess. I had 5 “V” episodes on the DVR and watched them over one weekend, so here it is. WOW!!! How cold IS Anna? Breaking your kid’s legs? Smacking her around? No flowers for you on Mother’s Day, bitch! On a personal note, the TVJ is horrified that her pal Rekha Sharma is a “V.” First you turn out to be a Cylon on “BSG” and now you’re a “V.” How can you do this to the TVJ, Rekha? The TVJ is crushed beyond belief and will need the entire summer to assimilate this dire situation.
Free pair of theatre tickets to the person who can tell the TVJ what ex-sci-fi star is directing episodes of “V,” and what show he/she was on. Now, on the other hand, “The Good Wife” is also a good mother, but will she support her husband in his re-election bid, or answer the phone call from Will? The TVJ has often sung the praises of the gloriously magnificent Julianna Marguiles and her performance in the finale was utter perfection. And then
there’s “Glee.” Mr. Shuster cried! NO!!! The baby was born and then adopted! YES!!! After being roundly put in her place as not-quite-the-star-she-
Thursday:
So, perhaps that was the TVJ’s scream you heard last Sunday at 4:10pm,
when the last 30 seconds of the DVR’d finale of “Vampire Diaries” aired in the TVJ’s living room. The TVJ literally JUMPED off the couch. It was not a pretty picture; potato chips went flying everywhere. Holy crap! There was more blood and gore in this one episode than in the entire season. You know Damon knows he kissed Katherine, NOT Elena. Ok, two for the price of one. This next season is going to be very interesting.
In Memoriam
As you know, we lost our beloved Rue McClanahan on Thursday, June 3, following a massive stroke. Rue, one of the last of the “The Golden Girls,” died at the age of 76, with her family by her side.
McClanahan had a stroke in late 2009, following triple bypass surgery, from which she never fully recovered. In 1997, she underwent treatment for breast cancer. Her co-stars, Estelle Getty and Bea Arthur passed away in July, 2008 & April, 2009, respectively, leaving Betty White as the only surviving “Golden Girl.” Best known for her role as Blanche Devereaux on the hit 1980s series about four retired ladies living it up in Miami, McClanahan also co-starred with
