Memo to: “Law & Order: SVU” – BRAVO!!! for the return of Stephanie March and Diane Neal as Alexandra Cabot and Casey Novak, the show’s best ADA’s evah! In addition, long-time “L&O:SVU” fans can now fill the void left by the departing Chris Meloni and the paring-down of Mariska Hargitay, with the addition of Kelli Giddish (“Chase”) and Danny Pino (“Cold Case”) as a set of new partners.
If you remember correctly, it was the TVJ who put it out there in the universe for someone to pick up on Giddish and give her a role worthy of her talents. Looks like Dick Wolf was listening.
Daytime Report:
Well, the TVJ just heard the rumor that “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” are being saved from the ax by the internet bell. Until there is further confirmation, it’s just a rumor. Another rumor going around, is that J
ohn-Paul Lavoisier (Rex Balsom, “OLTL”) will be the new Dillon Quartermaine on “General Hospital.” With “OLTL” head-writer Ron Carlivati heading to Port Charles when he leaves Llanview, will he take more of his actors with him? The TVJ will keep you posted.
Happy (?) Endings:
Talk about twists and turns! The TVJ sure didn’t see that one coming on the “Nurse Jackie”
season finale! Uh, Jackie, he cheated on you once and you’re throwing him out? The TVJ has one word for you: Eddie!!! Hello!!! “Dr. Who” ended its mid-season finale with the reveal of just who Dr. River Song really is and it was a whopper! Melody Pond = River Song. How could the TVJ not get it? Time to study up, or lose the TVJ’s membership as a Whovian. “Dr. Who” will be back in 2012, and hopefully, so will the divine Alex
Kingston as River Song. The TVJ cannot get enough of both River and Ms. Kingston. Meanwhile, back at the “Sanctuary,” Dr. Helen Magnus is not having a good day. Well, to be exact, the season finale left Dr. Magnus in a different day: Victorian England. Or is it really Hollow Earth? Tune in next season!
New Stuff:
The jury’s still out on this BBC import, starring Liam Cunningham, Hermione Norris (“Wire in the Blood”),
Amy Manson (“Torchwood”), Daniel Mays, Jamie Bamber (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Law & Order:UK”) and American actor Eric Mabius (“Ugly Betty”), but “Outcasts” could turn out to be something. Set in the year 2040, on the fictional planet Carpathia (named by the colonists in honor of the RMS Carpathia, the ship that rescued the survivors of the Titanic), a planet five years’ from Earth, Carpathia has been colonized by different factions of what’s left of Earth’s population, who have fled destruction and nuclear conflict back home. The TVJ must admit, though, Eric
Mabius as a shady character is certainly appealing. “Outcasts” is slow starting, but, then again, it is from the BBC. On the other hand, Steven Spielberg’s “Falling Skies,” starring Noah Wyle and Bill Patton, is pure adventure with really ugly, scary aliens that the surviving humans call Skitters, guns flaring and heroes abounding. Obviously, all those “Librarian” TV specials that Noah Wyle starred in, elevated him to the level of an Indiana Jones, the intellectual with an edge. If you’re a big Fran Drescher fan, then “Happily Divorced” is the show for you. The TVJ enjoys Gay humor as much as the next Gay gal, but REALLY! With shows like “Will & Grace,” “Ugly Betty” and “Frasier” (Gayer than “Ugly Betty,” almost as Gay as “Will & Grace”) as a barometer and the success of “The Nanny” something to aspire to, you’d think that this new show would be funnier and less obvious. That being said, the TVJ will stick with Fran (
yes, she’s named Fran on this one, too) and see where it goes.
Old Stuff:
People might be hiding “In Plain Sight,” but Mary & Marshal Marshall are having a baby! No, not with each other, but Mary McCormack is pregnant, so Mary Shannon is too. And she is so “Not the Mama!” “Hot in Cleveland” is getting off to a whacky start in its new season. The first episode had Elka on the lam and finding shelter in an Amish community. Ok, the possibilities were endless. Just watching Wendy Malick churning butter, made the TVJ’s night. The newest episodes of “The Inbetweeners,” are hilarious, as the boys go
to a gig and have a bit of a “puff,” turning them into stoned dorks. These lads are so inept at everything, especially in dealing with the opposite sex, that every time they have a date, the results are beyond absurd.
The TVJ’s Favorite New Show:
And that, TVJ fans, has to be “Franklin & Bash,” a legal show with no sturm und drang, just good old fashioned fun and the requisite weird characters. Jared Franklin (Breckin Meyer) and Peter Bash (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) are lifelong friends and kind of Denny Cranish sort of lawyers, without the guns. Instead, they have a pool table, a guitar, nightly parties with a bevy of beautiful women, a right-hand (Dana Davis as Carmen Phillips), the mandatory computer geek (Kumail Nanjiani as Pindar Singh, who is also agoraphobic and attends meetings via Skype) and Malcolm McDowell as Stanton Infeld, the big-shot attorney who hires this group of bumbling, brilliant barristers to join his major law firm. This is a comedy about the law, and it works on every level. It’s TNT at its best.
“Mob Wives” Wrap-up:
What can the TVJ say about this season finale? A knockdown, drag-out with all four.
In the words of Frank Barone, “HOLY CRAP!” Renee on her back with Karen and Drita punching each other’s lights out. The crew even had to jump in to separate them. But don’t let the TVJ spoil the fun. Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9FPIhLFUHM&feature=related Enjoy!
