In a season at certain times all too rife with cookie-cutter cabaret, impresario Lee Summers has created a truly other-worldly event with his Just A Piano series in periodic stints at the Triad, which have featured such marvelous entertainers as Melba Moore, Lillias White and LaChanze. His most recent, A Tribute To Queens, is in fact not an homage to the forgotten New York City outer borough as some might assume, but a dynamic evening of song devoted to the world's greatest pop divas, among them Streisand, Midler, Minnelli, Garland, Ella, Aretha, Diana Ross, Dusty Springfield, Carole King and even Sir Elton John.

Memo to Brian Frons – someone needs to shoot the entire writing staff of “General Hospital.” With VERY few exceptions, every parent and their offspring on this show are so f&%$*d up that they have made this show unwatchable. All they do is blame each other and point fingers, rather than owning up to their failures. The only characters on the show who KNOW they’re lousy parents and admit to it, are Luke Spencer and Alexis Davis. Luke (the always charmingly wonderful Tony Geary) knows he’s failed every parent test in the book and Alexis (my heart-throb and future ex-wife, the beautiful Nancy Lee Grahn) realizes that most of the time, she hasn’t a clue.

Feinstein's at Loews Regency, the nightclub proclaimed "Best of New York" by New York Magazine and "an invaluable New York institution" by The New York Post, will continue its all-star Spring/Summer 2010 season with the return of Bistro and MAC award winning vocalist Eric Michael Gillett, following two sold-out shows earlier this year. After several forays into contemporary pop, Eric Michael Gillett turns his attention to classic songs from the Great American Songbook in a tribute to one of America's most beloved composers, Harold Arlen.

OK, follow me, if you will, on a “Six Degrees of Separation” cabaret circular journey. I’m starting this column on a laptop at a club that feels like a fan club, again this Monday, because it’s Iridium Jazz Club, where The Les Paul Trio continues to honor the life and art of the late guitar icon. It’s a continuing jazz tradition there, but I’m supposed to be writing about Cabaret. So, what else is going on “In the Still of the Night” in NYC where “It’s De-Lovely” because “Anything Goes” in cabaret “All Through the Night?” I guess you might be getting the idea from these song titles,

As in seasons past, the 66th Annual Theatre World Awards once again clings to the traditions first set in motion by founder John Willis decades ago, in which a dozen thespians receive the esteemed honor of being cited for their impressive New York debuts either on or Off-Broadway, as bestowed by previous winners. One of the most notable attributes of this season's proceedings, however, was that the ceremony managed to come in at more than a half hour before the scheduled end-time, which is certainly due largely to the technical skill and proficiency of director Barry Keating, as well as the charm and personality of host Peter Filichia. And as such, it proved an afternoon not soon forgotten by any of the assembled throng.

Missing the Big Top and Ringmaster, this is a circus of business as usual...clowns, jugglers, contortionists with some extra-added attractions, some quite dazzling, others yet to be determined. Creator/director David Shiner has chosen to configure Cirque du Soleil with a storyline. That’s the TBD aspect! It all takes place at the newly restored Beacon Theatre on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Gay Marshall has been enchanting audiences with her extraordinary take on the late French icon: a celebration rather than an imitation, Gay presents Piaf as a versatile powerhouse of heartwarming and heartbreaking emotion, full of personality and humor. As Marshall told NPR's Scott Simon recently, "Piaf is always portrayed as 'the poor thing, but I find her much more magic than tragic."

Publisher's Note: Having had some experience in the past with presenting brunches, I feel confident to say that the new brunch program at Kitano, featuring Tony Middleton, has all the makings of success. The room is light and airy and perfect in its decor. The food is good and plentiful. The trio of Tony Middleton, Jesse Elder on Piano and Kenji Yoshitake on Bass, sound great in the space and Mr. Middleton's warm personality makes the whole thing a great package.

If it’s a good ole honkytonkin' time you’re after, for the first or the hundredth time, you need look no further than the Rodeo Bar on the first Monday of each month. That’s where the fabulous Babs Winn and her super-talented gang of guys and gals park their horses on said dates. I had the pleasure of joining the fun at this past week’s show, in fact they had me up to warble a cocktail-laced medley! The blonde and bubbly Babs is a terrific hostess, working the room before, during and after the sets making sure everyone was having as good a time as she was herself.
