Sheba Mason in NY Post
By Scott Barbarino

Sheba_MasonIt's been 24 years since Ginger Reiter gave birth to Jackie Mason's love child, Sheba Mason -- but the comic still hasn't warmed up to his daughter. "When he sees me in the street, he actually recognizes me," the petite brunette told Page Six. "I know he recognizes me because he runs in the other direction." Sheba has written a musical comedy, "702 Punchlines & Pregnant," about the love affair between Jackie and "my starry-eyed mother."

At_the_TriadOriginating in March 2010 as a part of Under The Covers, the New York Nightlife Award winning series produced by Lennie Watts, Terese Genecco sings this ground-breaking album from start to finish, in a groundbreaking live performance, accompanied by Musical Director and Windham Hill recording artist Sean Harkness on the guitar.  From the somber blues-ballad arrangement of "Blue Suede Shoes" to the rocking "Just Because," Ms. Genecco presents Elvis' self-titled first album, Elvis Presley (recorded in 1954, 1955 and 1956), track by track, with a twist – every song is sung to a different beat than the original.

WHAT WAS I THINKING? Opening Thoughts / Sondheim at the Cabaret
By Peter Napolitano

What_Was_I_ThinkingHello, NiteLife Exchange Readers!  After my first two assignments for this website that is “all about entertainment,” its publisher, Scott Barbarino, has invited me to write my own weekly column, entitled “What Was I Thinking?” expressing my unique viewpoint on varying topics related to the arts, usually using a current show or event as a jumping-off point.  You may very well ask, “What was Scott thinking?”

“You’ll Never Watch Alone” - "Carousel" in Bryant Park
By Peter Napolitano

CarouselThis past Monday, June 28, it was well over 90 degrees, with the kind of humidity that frizzles the smoothest coiffure and defies anti-perspirants.  Periods of rain and thunderstorms were predicted.  At about 5:30, it did start to rain, a brief drizzle.  But at 6pm, undeterred, I headed over to 42nd Street and Sixth Avenue, determined to attend the second film in this year’s annual Bryant Park Summer Film Festival,  Carousel.

A Benefit for "Help is on the Way Today"
By Jan Wallman

Lorinda_LisitzaThere is talent all over the place at Metropolitan Room, not just the acts (many of whom are "names") that the astute booker Tanya Holt retains for the nightly shows. Don't forget the staff - your waiters, waitresses, service bartenders, hosts, tech people and the very helpful and attractive Podium Girls and reservationists - almost all of them plying their trade at the nightly "day jobs" between theatre roles, cabaret performances, lessons and auditions, and

"A Promise Best Kept" Should Best Run Permanently
By Andrew Martin

A_Promise_Best_KeptIt comes as no surprise that the Off-Off-Broadway movement has for almost five decades unleashed some of the finest performers and playwrights of all time upon the globe. And Theatre for the New City has endured for nearly forty of those years as an undisputed champion of same; just a handful of their playwrights past and present have included Sam Shepard, Robert Patrick, Maria Irene Fornes, Lanford Wilson,

“Hooray For Love – Gillett Sings Arlen”
By Sandi Durell

Eric_Michael_GillettIn a departure from his contemporary pop themed shows, Eric Michael Gillett has chosen the sumptuous passion of the music of Harold Arlen.  Admittedly, Gillett has been attracted to the melancholy, dark quality of Arlen’s work, but is finding the humor as well. It’s a magical fit and one wonders what took him so long? Gillett is a master of lyric, with an actor’s ability to open his soul and reach an audience. His rich, powerful baritone creates humor and pathos on an array of Arlen songs.

Elli_FordyceYes, somehow, we have arrived at that point where, incredulously, we look at the calendar and realize that ,what was once a new year, is now actually half over.
