Joan Jaffe uses a quote "Joan Jaffe is a funny lady... utterly delightful... her timing is masterful - Jan Wallman, NiteLifeExchange" in her promotional material for her latest show Joan Jaffe's MAN-ha-ha-ha-TAN and its still true - She's even funnier in this new romp at Don't Tell Mama. With Jerry Scott, her multi-talented, multi-award-winning musical director/arranger, she had a captivated audience hootin' and hollerin' at her stand-up stuff and several comedy songs, such as Murray Grand's "Too Old to Die Young" and "One Stop Shopping," by Sue Matsuki. Not just a clown, she proves her versatility with standards, particularly a compelling take on Vernon Duke's "Autumn in New York."
I wish I'd had the opportunity to review this four night engagement earlier in the run, so I could have urged you to get to Mama's to enjoy it. There is one more performance Sunday October 30th at 7pm at Don't Tell Mama. Let's hope she'll reprise it. I'm campaigning for the club's astute booker, Sidney Meyer to bring her back, so watch this website for another show by Joan Jaffe, and go enjoy.
