Kenny and Leah Soderblom are both one of those things one might call a 'hidden' national treasure. They both bring to the jazz/pop idiom and our beloved American Songbook a wealth of musical taste and artistry. Yet, they both exhibit strong individuality remaining very loyal to their respective art forms... Kenny Soderblom, a true savant of the sax idiom, and Leah, a devotee of the bel canto form of jazz/pop vocalise... Thus, their new CD project gives us their listeners the full and varied picture of their musical personalities.
Leah's take on Michel's ''How Do You Keep The Music Playing'' exemplifies my subjective perspective. I note a certain canonic texture to all that the combined group delivers musically, (albeit in the capable talents of Richard Drexler-piano, Chuck Parr-drums,) assuring that the project can only come to fruition... fully!! So what can I say: Expressive, contrapuntal, chromatic, melodic, colorful, profound, prominent, lovely, et al.
These catharthic words help me to rationalize my positive feeling about this fine sojourn into the American Songbook mystique... I only hope my humble missive will animate my readers to support these two Florida based musical craftsmen.
