It's remarkable to ponder that Bud Shank was able to record such a passionate delivery of superb alto sax artistry...and then the next day, he died!! What an auspicious way to pass; to do what one does best right up to the last moment, as it were. The thing I have to remark about Bud's extraordinary talent(s) is his affinity for great phrasing and florid interpretation of our beloved American Songbook. His thoroughly fluid melodic/harmonic counterpoint and his flawless rhythmic articulation are striking and never overpowering as he processes his music for our total enjoyment and musical sensibilities. As you imbibe Bud's artistry, you are taking in a kind of penultimate and powerfully dramatic 'appassionata' of musical art. RIP Bud.
